Marriage

In Matthew chapter 8:14 we see the Gospel message revealed! Now when Jesus had come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them.

We see the Lord's kindness and tenderness towards those who call upon Him. We see our own great need of a healing Savior. We see our Savior himself touched with the feeling of our infirmities. We see Peter's mother in law being dignified by a personal healing touch from the Savior which humbles her and causes her to serve the Master.

Finally we see that Peter had a wife, not a husband. Jesus defines marriage as between a man and a woman. From the beginning it has been so! Take a look at Genesis Chapter One.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis Chapter Two...
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
23 And Adam said:
“This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.”
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
